Alloy partnered with Raymarine to define the graphical identity for the LightHouse 3 marine operating system. The goal was to create a clear, intuitive interface that works across vessels from kayaks to offshore cruisers, and remains usable in bright sunlight, rough seas, and high-pressure navigation scenarios.
Outcome: A scalable UI design system for marine navigation, delivering consistent radar, sonar, and charting experiences across Raymarine’s LightHouse 3 hardware range.
Vessel types
LightHouse 3 supports more than 15 different vessel types, from kayaks and RIBs to sailing yachts and ocean-going cruisers.Screen modes
Multiple adaptive screen modes optimise visibility for day, night, and high-glare marine environments.Market share growth
The LightHouse 3 interface contributed to a 44 percent increase in Raymarine’s market share in compatible marine navigation systems.Raymarine are leading specialists in performance marine electronics, developing systems that are used on anything from a kayak to large cruisers, enhancing boat owners’ experience whether they are fishing, sailing or cruising.
Raymarine selected Alloy as a partner to help design a new graphical identity for their LightHouse 3 operating system. The platform supports the full range of Raymarine capabilities including radar, sonar, thermal and audio integration.
Working in close collaboration with the Raymarine team, we helped develop a new graphical identity to work in the extreme environments found out at sea. Combining design research and Raymarine’s extensive knowledge of its users, we designed a new identity to provide an attractive, powerful and intuitive UI, meeting the high demands of modern boaters. The requirement to work across a range of screen sizes and configurations needed our design team to develop a flexible GUI framework, allowing industry-leading personalisation of the navigation experience to suit individuals’ needs.
