Alloy helped NETGEAR bring the Arlo brand into baby monitoring by designing an advanced smart camera with a playful, nursery-friendly identity. Interchangeable character skins help the device feel at home in a child’s room, while the clean core form supports continued use beyond the nursery.
Outcome: Concept-to-prototype baby monitor design with an adaptable character-skin system and a premium core product form, prepared for supplier engagement and production development.

More than twenty two million Arlo devices shipped globally.Building on our long-term relationship with global consumer electronics brand NETGEAR, Alloy was selected as their preferred partner to help extend their market leading smart home security brand Arlo, into the baby monitoring space.
With an exciting brief to design the best baby monitoring device the market has ever seen, Alloy used its experience-led design approach to identify and deliver on key innovation opportunities for the product identity, user experience and product functionality, which in-turn would leverage NETGEAR’s formidable technical capabilities and leadership position within home monitoring cameras.
The characterisation of the camera via interchangeable skins allows the camera to be dressed up as a range of cute animals, addresses the opportunity to harmonise the product to its surrounding environment and ensures the technology is far more in keeping with a babies room than a normal monitoring camera.
The interchangeable skins approach also allows for a more neutral non-nursery aesthetic when the device is ‘naked’, making it easy to repurpose to more traditional home monitoring opportunities and extending the useful life expectancy of the product beyond just baby monitoring.
