Orbit is an interactive 360° projector designed to bring families together through shared play, learning, and physical activity. In a world dominated by personal screens, the product reframes digital interaction by encouraging users to put their phones down—then using them as the trigger for real-world connection.
Outcome: A concept-ready immersive projection system combining ultra-short-throw optics, infrared touch detection, and a companion mobile interface to transform everyday surfaces into shared, interactive environments for learning, movement, and play.
360° interactive modes
Sixteen unique interactive projection modes designed to support play, learning, and physical activity across multiple room surfaces.Setup time
Under ten minutes setup time, enabling fast installation and immediate use in family home environments.Primary use cases
Three core use cases defined through user research: education, physical activity, and shared family play. The 21st century has been an era of colossal technological advances, with arguably the biggest life changing innovation being the smart phone. It has transformed our lives entirely; we have become totally reliant on them to the point of addiction. And therein lies the issue. There is widespread concern about the amount of time children spend staring at screens – with many worried about the negative impacts mobile devices might have on health, well-being and the detrimental impact on the time family members spend together.
ORBIT is an interactive 360° ultra-short throw projector that looks to address this growing concern by encouraging families to put their mobile devices down and spend time together. Enabling more family interactions through play, educational and physical activities. The idea is simple; put your smart phone down on top of the unit to bring it to life. Then, using it’s 4 ultra-short throw projectors, it projects a 360° interactive touch interface on to any surface. This turns any smart phone into a central focus for family fun and learning wherever you might want it.
Infra-red sensors around the device detect when a user touches anywhere on the projection, turning any surface into an interactive interface. This allows ORBIT to be used anywhere with a flat surface. Orbit centers around 4 main use cases; education, cooking, exercise, and family conversation. The 360° projections help to create a collaborative learning environment, useful kitchen worktop, active exercise floor space and opens up the opportunity for video conversations from the comfort of your sofa. The team went through a range of design services inorder to execute the final concept outcome.
