Brief
Sküma partnered with Alloy to bring their vision of pure, sustainable hydration into the home through a countertop water filtration appliance. The product was designed to purify tap water using advanced reverse osmosis, then reintroduce essential minerals to deliver consistently balanced, great-tasting water on demand.
Outcome: A production-ready in-home water filtration system that combines reduced wastewater reverse osmosis, mineral infusion, and intuitive temperature and volume control, enabling healthier daily hydration with significantly lower environmental impact.

Create pure mineral water at home
The average person in the UK uses 150 plastic water bottles every year. If just 1 in 10 of the population refilled a bottle just once a week, we would save around 340 million plastic bottles. Sküma is a standalone home appliance, designed and engineered to provide users with pure, mineralised water. Sküma purifies tap water and charges it with electrolytes providing healthy, inexpensive and hassle-free enhanced water in the home.
Key design challenges were addressed, enabling Sküma to cover a variety of different use cases. From coffee lovers to newborn baby formula, Sküma offers an opportunity for everyone to access enhanced and healthy filtered water. Simple interface buttons of temperature, volume and dispensing controls create a simple, easy to use experience.
Reverse osmosis systems are very effective at purifying water. But they are wasteful. For every 1 litre of purified water, you’ll get 4 litres of wastewater. Sküma uses a revolutionary reverse osmosis technology that reverses the ratio, saving an enormous amount of water! It’s good for the environment and not only that, it also saves users money too. Sküma’s commitment to sustainability means that “wastewater” isn’t actually wasted. Sküma's wastewater is great for your plants and garden. It fills up in a handy little easy to pour tank. The mineral concentrate is added to the purified water, to achieve the perfect nutritional balance in their water, every single use. The flagship liquid concentrate contains Magnesium and Potassium. These two minerals are an integral part of your diet and becoming harder to find in everyday foods.
